Specimen Bonsai

Can Datura Innoxia be trimmed to keep it smallish?

I have a cast iron and glass terrarium that is 2′x1′ wide and 3′ tall (not including the legs and dome-like top) I also have a good growing light for it…

I was thinking it’d be really cool to keep a Datura innoxia specimen inside of it and try to trick it into blooming out of season. Since the plant can reach 3′-5′ I would need to trim it, maybe even give it a bonsai look. Is it possible to trim these plants into shape?

(P.S. If I would grow this plant, it would totally be for the aesthetic purposes only, and I would keep the terrarium locked )

definitely read what the gardeners had to say at the bottom of this page…

note in this pic…

where the flowers form on the plant….. at the terminal end of the stem…. if you continually prune the ends of the stems, you’ll get a luverly thick plant, but you’ll be lacking the ends necessary for bloom… UNLESS… you then let them go to form bloom… much like we do for our mums… they’re pinched all year until July so that they can then form buds to bloom in Sept….

this plant wants to grow… you’ll have your hands full keeping it small…. but it’ll be a great experiment… and I’d love to hear how it turns out!!….
