Bonsai Growing Facts

The word Bonsai means “tree in a pot” and it is not a type of plant. Most trees can be grown as a Bonsai tree. Bonsai growing is an art that takes time and knowledge. Many factors attribute to successful Bonsai growing – species, pruning, shaping , watering ,feeding, best growing situation  and lots of care and attention. It is very satisfying to grow a huge tree in miniature form and see it change through the seasons just like a fully grown tree.
Most species of trees can be grown as a Bonsai. Care and knowledge should be sort about each species that you would like to grow so that your specimen will live and grow  and give you joy for years to come. Bonsai trees last for a long time if they are cared for in the correct way.
Pruning is an important part of Bonsai growing and special tools can be bought to do this, but you don’t need these really as a good pair of cutters will do this job . The roots and the branches need to be trimmed regularly and with care. It is important not to let the roots become too large. The roots must be covered with soil at all times and some suggest that a shallow tray and small stones is the best container.  The branches also need pruning and the shape of the tree must also be considered.  After pruning and re potting you need to make sure that your tree is not exposed to direct harsh sunlight.
Shaping your Bonsai is done regularly with pruning of the branches but to get a more interesting shape you can use fine copper wire that you twist around the branches and then shape these into the form that you like. There are shapes that are recognised in the Bonsai form but you can shape them to suit your style.
Watering should not be done so that the roots sit in moisture. If the tree is left in a windy position then the roots can dry out quickly. Care must be taken to place your Bonsai in the best position in your home for that particular species of tree.
Bonsai trees need feeding. Phosphoric acid, potash, nitrogen, sunlight and water are the main nutrients to give your plant as they require these to keep them healthy and growing for a long time.
To  grow successful Bonsai I would suggest that you find all the information about the species you want to grow and then get growing. This is a rewarding hobby and you could make this a money hobby if you give it time.
